Stone Walkway / Walkway and Paths
Alongside the aesthetic appeal, adding a walkway or path to your property can have a number of benefits. Positioning a path to the entrance of your property will create a beautiful entrance, as well as protecting your property from people walking all over it. Constructing pathways in the back yard can do the same, as well as breaking up spaces and creating a beautiful oasis. Well-installed walkways can also increase your property value! There are many options when choosing the type of walkway or path you would like; our experts are happy to delve into all these with you as we understand it is a big decision!
The difference between Walkways and Paths Typically, there is a difference in the types of materials used to build paths and walkways. Walkways are usually more stable surfaces, using materials such as paving stone and interlocking blocks. Pathways however more commonly use natural materials, like loose gravel or mulch, to create a softer look. These design choices are dependent on the style you want. Our designers have an experienced eye and will be able to direct you toward options that we think will best suit your area. The decision is ultimately yours but you will be supported and not alone in making these choices! Design considerations You will need to keep in mind details such as potential uses for the walkway or path, the usual weather conditions and the style of your surrounding architecture. There are so many elements to the design, including material used, foundational decisions, and aesthetic appearance. Some of these decisions will be best guided by one of our experts, who can inform you of which structures will best fit into your property. Other elements are up to you and these conversations are welcomed! You can take your time thinking over which you think will suit your property best. Using stone A stone walkway is very versatile. It can be installed to have a rustic charm, ideal for a natural landscaping plan or cottage garden style design. It can also be equally suitable to create a modern and chic feel. Stone is incredibly durable and long-lasting. Our experts will be able to explain the benefits of each of the foundational methods and work with you to decide what is most suited to your property. Interlocking paving Another option is to use interlocking paving. This creates a stunning design and can again come in a variety of colors and materials. Keeping to the theme of using natural substances, our particular favorites are brick and blocks. This style of hardscape will facilitate your walkway and paths to be as strong and long-lasting as possible. They also (as with a stone walkway) ensure water run-off, dealing with any issues of drainage problems by allowing water to permeate through the gaps down to the ground soil. Not using concrete is the key component to this benefit. |
